275. Al Gore and the inconvenient truth for The Future

Last week I was at a talk organized by the Chicago Council of Global Affairs to promote Al Gore’s new book, The Future. The author who happens to be a former Vice President was present and spoke very well followed by a book signing after the talk. What struck me was the gigantic size of the book that explains six drivers for the future.

Reams and reams of paper would have gone into producing these books that were retailing at $30. Now, for a man who is a Nobel Laureate and the brain behind the inconvenient truth it would be a no-brainer to promote e-books. I did buy a book and get it autographed in the excitement.

The better idea would have been to sell the cheapest e-book reader with the book preloaded onto them and for those who already own an e-book reader it would have been prudent to sell a gift card that enables the buyer to download the book on their e-readers and also get the author’s autograph on the other side of these gift cards and preserve it as a souvenir. I believe this has to be the way forward. If we don’t do it now then when?
