242. Seven Fresh Spices = Sataza

January 11, 2013

There is something about this new India inspired grill – Sataza – which I hope will someday become a chain because it offers an interesting spread of feel good food. I am grateful the owners chose to open their first outlet in my building ensure my daily supper is taken care of. Talking of the owners they are recent MBAs from booth School of Business with a consulting background and are both of Indian origin but never been to India. – their grandparents migrated from Gujarat to Africa and then further north and west.

The food is straightforward and in typical Chipotle style one can choose a base of chapati or fragrant and coloured basmati rice (there is also a no carb option of lettuce which then becomes a salad). The proteins are interesting with a choice of Chicken or Beef for the carnivores and Paneer or chickpeas for the losers (with no offence meant) which have unique flavours. Then one can choose toppings from a bunch of vegetarian options and finally add one or more of the six chutneys on offer.

I have tried mixing and matching everything (including some of the excellent sides that come at $3 a piece) from the day it soft launched on the 2nd day of this year. I love the food, the place and the co-owners who are friendly and have promised to name a dish after me for my punctual 7 pm visits on all weekdays. I recommend this to anyone who likes Indian spices and flavours and with the pricing  between $7 and $8 it is an affordable, fresh and healthy meal.
