228. Human Men Don’t Rape – Beastly Men Do
I have written a few thoughts last week about what can be done to eliminate rape in our lifetime. This heinous act takes place in every country but various factors including population size and level of punishment have made it a rampant crime in India. Rape takes place within marriages and also occurs between two perfect strangers or between two people who are acquainted with each other.
Men and women commit all kinds of crimes. But only men can commit rape which destroys a woman mentally, physically and emotionally and is definitely even worse than murder. For every 99 human men there is one beastly man who brings out his wild instincts and harms a woman known or unknown to him.
It is not just a gender crime or a sex crime but a crime against humanity. We need to collectively put an end to this menace before it destroys the fabric of society that has evolved over the years. Indian culture has always been patriarchal and men have believed they can get away with anything but we are in the 21st century and this illusion should go and we can make it happen if we decide.

I wrote this blog one hour before news of the death was flashed.
As a mark of protest I will institute an annual scholarship in my school in 2013 that supports a Class 10th student who is a role model for gender equality in memory of Jyoti – the victim of the Delhi Gang Rape.
